Junior Development

The goal of MWSA's Junior Development Clinic is to provide aspiring junior water skiers or any child who has the desire to further their water skiing abilities with an opportunity to learn from some of the best water ski coaches in Minnesota. This annual event is open to anyone 18 years of age or younger (Boys 5 or Girls 5 maximum age).  Each skier must be an active USA Water Ski member (due to insurance purposes) and an active MWSA member.  Each skier will receive instructional sets over the two-day clinic.  Spots are limited and fill up fast.

Registration for the 2024 clinic will open on March 1st at 8:00am CST. Just click on the link in the drop down menu of "Junior Development".

Sponsorship Opportunities

We are also looking for sponsors for the Junior Development Clinic.  Sponsorship includes:

a) your name/logo on the back of the t-shirts given to all of the kids
b) two appreciation call-outs in our MWSA newsletter
c) recognition on our MWSA Junior Development web site

What is Junior Development?

What we offer

  • Instructional sets on a private ski site with instruction from experienced coaches.
  • 3-event instruction (slalom, trick, jumping [jump is based on site availability]). Sorry, but no wakeboarding.
  • Competition ski boats
  • Tons of fun! The clinic runs either Friday-Sunday or Saturday/Sunday, depending upon location. The dates for 2024 are June 7-9. 
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • A MN Jr. Development Shirt for each skier.
  • Complimentary entry fee to the Minnesota State Water Ski championships in July for those that haven’t participated in a ski tournament previously (for 2024 the dates are July 27-28).
  • Cost is $170 for the weekend

How to register

  • Registration opens on March 1 at 8:00am CST
  • We ask that all skiers are able to get up on 2 skis prior to the clinic.
  • The clinic is open to skiers in AWSA divisions Boys 1-5 and Girls 1-5(Ages 18 and under).
  • The 2024 Junior Development site choices are (due to limited space at each location, on the registration form be sure to select 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices):
    • Trophy Lakes Estates III in Center City, MN (North of Lindstrom)
    • Quarry Lake in Shakopee, MN (SW Twin Cities suburb)
    • Trophy Lakes Estates IV in New Germany, MN (West of the Twin Cities)
  • Note: We will do our very best to place your child at the lake of their choice.  Please understand that it is sometimes necessary to move participants to other lakes to ensure adequate time on the water and the best possible opportunity to learn and have fun.
  • Registrations will only be accepted online at the link above and will be taken on a first come, first served basis.  
    • We will start a waiting list if the clinic fills up.
  • More details on site location and schedule will be sent to you after you are registered.
  • Every participant must be an active USA Water Ski member due to insurance purposes.
  • Join USA Waterski by clicking here, or by calling 1-800-533-2972. The cost is $60/year for juniors (family memberships are also available).
  • A pre-clinic e-mail will arrive in May.
  • Once your registration has been received (you will receive an e-mail confirmation), please make hotel reservations if necessary.
  • Should you choose to cancel your skier's registration, an administrative fee / cancellation fee will be kept by the MWSA in the amount of $50.00 per skier.
