Junior Development 2010:  Another successful year!

The 2010 Minnesota Water Ski Association (MWSA) Junior Development Clinic was held on June 11-13. This year’s clinic was
hosted by Trophy Lakes Estates I (TLE I) in Glenwood, Trophy Lakes Estates III (TLE III) in Center City, and Quarry Lake in
Shakopee. 28 skiers ranging in age from six to seventeen, with varying skill levels, participated in this year’s clinic. Several
participants learned to slalom, some learned to run the slalom course, some learned new tricks, and a couple tried the jump for the
first time. The more seasoned skiers focused on fine tuning their slalom, trick and jump skills. In addition to learning new ski
skills, feedback from the kids and many of the adult volunteers was that a lot of fun was had by all. In between ski sets, the kids
kept occupied with activities including swimming, games, exploring the lakeshore, shaving cream fights, lunch, and snacks.

The clinic was a great way to kick start the water ski season, as most of the participants had just finished the school year that
week. Many of the participants have been seen at several tournaments since the clinic. Eight junior skiers participated in their
first tournament in July, and a few others plan on participating in their first tournament later this summer. The clinic met it’s
objectives of a) providing a fun weekend for the kids; b) providing quality ski instruction to the kids; and c) expanding the sport
by introducing kids to 3-event tournament water skiing.
